A short description of Kinesiology - Thunder Bay Campus

As a Kinesiology student, you will cover a broad base of multi-disciplinary fields of study, including: physiology, biomechanics, gerontology, psychology, psychomotor behaviour, sociocultural influences, musculoskeletal injuries, ergonomics, sports medicine, adapted physical activity, lifestyle management and nutrition. In the fourth year, you will complete a research project in a selected area of kinesiology under the supervision of a faculty member. In preparation for this research project, you will take courses in statistics and research processes. The "Practice of Kinesiology" is a vital part of the School of Kinesiology’s curriculum and involves a series of practical courses constructed to develop knowledge and skills through hands-on experience.

What is Kinesiology - Thunder Bay Campus

The future is exciting for graduates of Kinesiology as the professional field continues to evolve in Canada and internationally. Graduates of the Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology continue to be hired as exercise specialists in clinical and health-related institutions based on their academic and practical skill preparation and understanding of human movement. Most notably, Kinesiology is now a regulated health profession within the Province of Ontario. As a result, many opportunities will emerge over the next five years. In addition, the School of Kinesiology is committed to educating our students about health and physical activity across the lifespan. Many of our graduates continue beyond the Honours degree, completing requirements to become teachers and health educators.

As a Kinesiology graduate, you may also pursue graduate studies within the Master of Science program or the one year Diploma in Professional Kinesiology at Lakehead, or in other graduate programs in the health sciences. The Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology program provides a strong multidisciplinary core of study, enabling you to continue on in other professional fields including medicine, occupational therapy, physiotherapy or chiropractic.
