Why do you enjoy working at Lakehead University?
I get the chance to meet with applicants when they are first inquiring about Lakehead and being the person to tell them all of the wonderful things that an education at Lakehead University may hold for them in their future.  Being a part of the whole application process with the students is a wonderful thing; not something that all institutions can do.  I meet students when they are interested in our school, see them at Open Houses, Spring Visits, March Break Previews, and then again to choose their courses when they’ve picked Lakehead.  I feel like there is a relationship formed that you will not get at large schools; and that relationship will continue in every facet here at the Orillia Campus. I love the fact that I have the opportunity to work at a post secondary institution; especially one that has the reputation that Lakehead has. Small class sizes, chance for close interaction with our professors, being a ‘person’ not a ‘number’, and a great educational experience.

What is your favourite place on campus?
I love the Heritage Place building! The exposed bricks and beams give it such a homey feel.  Also the downtown core of Orillia is what I consider our campus too as everything is so close.  Mariposa Market, La Mezzaluna Cafe and the Filou Bistro are my favourite places to hang out (well pretty much anything to do with food).

What attracted you to Orillia?
The fact that it was close to home was key, and the idea of working at Lakehead University was the big clincher.  I love that it is a smaller city, and all that Orillia offers.

What is there to see and do in Orillia?
During all four seasons, you can find things to do both outdoors and indoors.  An array of activities await you in Orillia; downhill skiing, cross country skiing, boating, walking, and running, plus more and not to mention all the festivities that Orillia offers throughout all the year.

Some of the events; Sunday Band Concerts(summer), Perch Festival, Mariposa Folk Festival, Dragonboat Festival, concerts & plays at the Orillia Opera House, Fall Fair, Farmers Market, Steven Leacock Museum.  For the outdoor enthusiasts, we have our two beautiful lakes; Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching, and our 9.5 km trail system that you can run/walk.
