Lakehead University Residence is an exciting environment to be a part of!

At Lakehead University Residence we are concerned with your physical environment and the activities that promote the personal growth of those who make up our Residence Community.  University is not limited to simply lectures and laboratories!  It is a combination of both in-class and out-of-class learning, meeting new friends, sharing new and past experiences and discovering new insights about the world and yourself.  Our Residence community provides an opportunity to further the learning experience that takes place outside of the classroom.  In this way you can enhance your educational experience by getting to know and understand each other through exposure to different ideas and ways of life.

Inter-house activities play a big part in the recreational atmosphere of Lakehead University Residence.  By providing the proper physical environment and programming of activities, we hope to foster in our residents a feeling of mutual trust and an increasing sense of responsibility and personal worth.

It is our hope that you will regard Residence as not just a place to keep you warm and dry, but your "home away from home."

Residences

Accommodations at Lakehead are divided into three primary living-styles:  dormitory, apartments and townhouses.  Each style provides a unique environment allowing you to experience freedom while receiving the academic and social support that you need to be successful.  All of the residences maintain a sense of community, and strive to provide a safe and healthy atmosphere for all of its members.  Our dormitories have double, basic single and single rooms and come with the convenience of a full meal plan.  The apartment and townhouse accommodations are reserved for upper-year students.  For full descriptions of our Residence Facilities please visit http://residence.lakeheadu.ca

Application Procedure - High School Students
Admission to residence is guaranteed to all high school students, provided that they are admitted to Lakehead University by May 28, 2008.  Each admitted high school student residing outside the City of Thunder Bay will receive a Residence Room Offer and personal profile in their Offer of Admission Package (there is no need to apply ahead of time).  In order to accept the room offer, you must complete and mail in the signed application and contract, along with a $500.00 room reservation down payment by the indicated due date.  This down payment will be applied towards total Residence fees.  The balance of Residence fees may be paid in two installments, one in August and one in January.

Room Assignments – High School Students
Once a High School student housing application and contract, along with the down payment, are received in the Residence Office, the room assignment is completed.  Every effort is made to assign students to their first choice.  The personal data section is carefully reviewed to determine room assignment and roommate match up.  Should you have a particular person you would like to live with, please indicate this on your application and contract.  There are a limited number of basic single and single rooms available.

Application Procedure - Mature/Transfer Students
Mature/Transfer students to Residence are students transferring from another post secondary institution, students who graduated from high school one or more years ago, mature students, exchange and international students.  For information on how to apply to Residence please see http://residence.lakeheadu.ca for instructions.

Room Assignments – Mature/Transfer Students
Mature/Transfer Students to Residence whose applications are received by the deadline date and who are admitted to the University are entered into a lottery selection for room placement.  Successful lottery applicants will be mailed Residence Room Offers with a specified room assignment and deadline date.  Students not entered into the lottery are placed in an active applicant pool.  Residence continues to send out room offers to admitted students throughout the summer months until Residence is full.

Lakehead University welcomes all applicants.  However, we do not have facilities for married couples or family housing during the fall and winter terms.

Students living in our residence community can expect to:
*live in safe, furnished, and well maintained dormitories, apartments and townhouses
