Why Lakehead University Orillia Campus?

As a student at the Lakehead University Orillia Campus, you will be a part of something new. We are the newest university in Central Ontario. Right now, we are in the process of building our brand new campus which means you would be part of the first class to enjoy our new space. Just imagine...a new campus, be the first to walk the halls, being able to shape student life and the university community as a whole.

We are also a smaller campus community where we get to know you as a person and not a number (our students favourite thing). With an average class size of 17 students, you will never be lost in the crowds. Smaller class sizes allow you to flourish as a student and develop great relationships with your professors.

New Campus Coming 2010!

We are so excited at the Lakehead University - Orillia Campus! This spring we had our ground breaking ceremony to celebrate the opening of our permanent campus opening this fall 2010.

This means that you will be attending classes on the newest campus in Ontario. And we will be setting the standards for all other institutions as Lakehead University Orillia Campus as the FIRST university campus in North America to be entirely designed and built to the very highest standards of energy efficiency and environmental design. 

When the permanent campus opens in 2010, it will feature a LEED® Platinum building certified by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating System (LEED®) endorsed by the Canadian Green Building Council of Canada.

The building and campus will be environmentally friendly in every way possible; from the green roofing system, to geothermal energy source, solar thermal collectors on the residence building, water collection ponds, bio-swales in parking lots (shaded areas for cars), use of natural light and much more.

Our main floor will house the largest classrooms, library, and Student Services, as well as an open concept gathering space for students, faculty and staff. The second floor will feature smaller classrooms and administrative offices. Two multipurpose science labs on the third floor will help round out the learning atmosphere in our inaugural building.

Student Life

As a Lakehead student, we also want you to enjoy yourself outside of the classroom. The best way to make the most of your experience, meet others and make a difference is to get involved in the campus community! Although we are a new campus, our student life continues to grow each and every year based on the interests of the student body. As a new student, you will be able to shape student life at our new campus by spearheading the development of new student clubs, associations, events and more!

Housing

While residence complexes are in the plans for future development, the Lakehead University Orillia Campus currently does not feature residence accommodations this time. But that's okay! There are plenty of housing options available within the City of Orillia. In fact, all of our current students enjoy living off-campus! Here are some of the reasons why our students enjoy living off campus:

• You can bring a pet!
• Lots of choices - you can choose a living arrangement that is best suited to you
